Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recovered 147 stolen livestock after suspected bandits fled during a military operation in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation targeted the fleeing criminals as they attempted to move the stolen animals to an unknown destination. On sighting the troops, the bandits abandoned the livestock and escaped.
Security sources said the recovered animals included 101 cows, 44 sheep and two camels. Soldiers also seized three motorcycles believed to have been used by the suspects during the operation.
The livestock have since been returned to their rightful owners, providing relief to affected families who rely on the animals for their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the recovery followed a series of attacks reportedly carried out by suspected bandits in Kaura, Wanke, Sage, Marake and Aggur villages, all within Shagari Local Government Area.

During the attacks, the assailants allegedly rustled a large number of livestock, injured several residents and shot two people in the legs before fleeing.
The injured victims were taken to Shagari General Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Security operations are expected to continue in the area as troops intensify efforts to track down the fleeing bandits and prevent further attacks.
