Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE, have raided a suspected terrorist hideout in Peva, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, arresting five persons suspected to be associates of a notorious bandit operating in the area.
The operation was conducted in the early hours of Thursday, September 3, 2026, following credible intelligence on the location of the suspected criminal hideout.
According to a statement by the Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, troops from Sector 1, working with personnel from Sector 3, swiftly mobilised to the location and launched a precision raid.
The suspected terrorists reportedly fled before the arrival of the troops, allegedly after receiving information about the advancing security personnel.
However, a subsequent search of the area led to the arrest of five individuals believed to have links with the fleeing bandit.
The troops also recovered two AK-47 rifle magazines, 46 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a woodland camouflage jacket, a jungle hat, four charm vests and assorted charms.

The military said the arrests and recovery of the items had provided useful leads that could assist ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal group.
Operation WHIRL STROKE reiterated its commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements operating within its area of responsibility.
The task force also urged residents of Taraba State and neighbouring communities to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies to support efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace.
