Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have neutralised a suspected bandit kingpin and arrested two suspected kidnappers in separate operations across Benue State.
The Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to Zubairu, troops acting on credible intelligence on August 19 intercepted a suspected bandit kingpin and members of his group operating an illegal checkpoint along the Jortar–Atume axis.
The encounter reportedly led to a gun battle during which one of the suspected bandits, identified by the nickname “Cool Nigga,” was killed. Other members of the group reportedly fled, abandoning a motorcycle that was recovered by the troops.

In a separate operation in Gou, Logo Local Government Area, troops also arrested two suspected kidnappers identified as 44-year-old Terhile Iyo and 32-year-old Vershima Emmanuel.
The suspects allegedly confessed to attempting to kidnap a resident of Gou Village, Mrs Balame Nyikwagh.
Items recovered from them included a locally made pistol, one cartridge, five Tecno torchlight phones, a MoniePoint ATM card, an identity card, multiple SIM cards and charms.
The two suspects remain in military custody for further investigation.
OPWS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across its areas of operation in Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states. The force also urged residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information to help combat criminal activities.
