Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI have reportedly killed 48 suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters while repelling coordinated attacks on military formations in Borno and Yobe States.
The military operation, which took place between October 29 and 30, 2026, involved fierce engagements in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, and the North East Theatre Training School (NETTS), Buni Yadi, in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Acting Media Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Captain Mohammed Goni, troops successfully disrupted a terrorist attack on their position in Bitta on the night of October 29.
The soldiers, supported by air assets, reportedly overwhelmed the attackers and inflicted heavy casualties, forcing them to abandon their mission.
In a separate engagement, troops launched a strong counter-offensive against a large group of ISWAP fighters who attacked NETTS Buni Yadi from the evening of October 29 into the early hours of October 30.
The intense battle lasted approximately five hours, with troops deploying intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) systems alongside coordinated air and ground operations.
