A heavy-duty trailer loaded with iron rods crashed into the perimeter fence of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia, Abia State, after reportedly losing control in the early hours of Thursday.
The incident occurred along the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Expressway near Finbarrs Road, close to the Abia State High Court, causing a major traffic disruption on the busy route.
According to the driver, the trailer developed a mechanical fault while attempting to climb a hill. The vehicle reportedly lost braking power and rolled backwards uncontrollably before slamming into the fence of the medical facility.
The impact left part of the expressway obstructed, resulting in a lengthy traffic gridlock as commuters and motorists struggled to navigate the affected area during the morning rush hour.
