A female TikTok content creator has reportedly undergone traditional cleansing rites after allegedly filming a procession linked to the revered Oloolu Masquerade Festival in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, sparked widespread reactions after videos surfaced showing the woman participating in a public cleansing ritual at the Oloolu compound.
According to Chief Adeola Oloko, spokesperson to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the woman did not record the sacred Oloolu masquerade itself but mistakenly filmed Alawo Oloolu, a figure associated with the tradition.
Clarifying the situation, Oloko stated that the footage was captured along a public route during the procession within the Ibadan axis.
However, shortly after sharing the video online, the content creator reportedly began experiencing unusual health complications, which prompted her family to seek intervention from traditional custodians.
“She mistook Alawo for the main Oloolu masquerade and recorded it. After posting the video, she began experiencing health issues, and her family quickly reached out to the Oloolu custodians, who attended to her according to tradition,” Oloko explained.
Videos circulating online show the woman undergoing cleansing rituals, including shaving her hair, wearing red garments, and participating in ceremonial rites.

Reports also indicate that sacrificial items such as a ram and giant African snails were presented as part of the process.
While some social media claims suggested she disguised herself as a man to film the procession, Oloko noted that such accounts remain unverified.
An Ibadan-based content creator, Ayo Adams, who claimed to have visited the Oloolu compound, confirmed that the woman is alive and recovering. According to him, the family, alongside security operatives, facilitated her visit to the shrine for the necessary rites.
“The lady has reunited with her family and is currently recovering after the prescribed rituals were carried out,” Adams stated.
The Oyo State Police Command, however, disclosed that it has no official record of the incident, as it was not reported at any nearby police station.
The Oloolu Festival is an annual cultural event celebrated by descendants of the Oloolu lineage and attracts traditional leaders, worshippers, and cultural enthusiasts across Yorubaland.
The festival involves rituals, processions, drumming, and sacrifices aimed at honoring ancestors and seeking communal well-being.
Unlike many public festivals, the Oloolu tradition is governed by strict taboos, including restrictions on photographing or recording certain aspects of the procession—rules which custodians urge the public to respect.
