Several soldiers have reportedly been killed after suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly attack on a Nigerian Army base in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday night, May 6, 2026.
Security sources said the insurgents stormed the military facility late Wednesday night in a coordinated assault that caught troops off guard. The attackers were reportedly heavily armed and arrived in multiple gun trucks before opening fire on the base.
During the attack, several soldiers were said to have lost their lives, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Among those injured was the commanding officer of the base, identified as Lieutenant Colonel Manu.

Magumeri, located about 35 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, has remained one of the areas frequently targeted by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in the ongoing insurgency in northeastern Nigeria.
The latest assault adds to a series of attacks on military formations in Borno State in recent months. Earlier incidents reportedly claimed the lives of senior officers and soldiers during operations against insurgents across different local government areas.
Despite repeated assurances by the Nigerian military that insurgents have been weakened, attacks on troops and communities continue to raise concerns over security in the region.
