The police have arrested five suspects in Kano over the alleged production, sale, and distribution of counterfeit herbal medicines while impersonating a registered traditional medicine practitioner.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of Zone One Headquarters, Abdullahi Hussaini, the suspects were arrested following a complaint filed on August 10, 2026, by Abdulwahab Abubakar, the Chief Executive Officer of Abdulwahab Abubakar Herbal and Islamic Clinic in Bauchi.
The complainant alleged that the suspects had been illegally using his name, business identity, and educational materials to promote and sell fake herbal products to members of the public.
He further claimed that some of the suspects collected money from customers in his name without delivering the promised medicines, while others sold counterfeit herbal mixtures that could pose serious health risks.

The police identified the suspects as Muhammad Usman, Husaini Kabir, Hassan Kabir, Suleiman Salihu, and Nura Garba.
According to the statement, the suspects admitted to their involvement during questioning, while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals connected to the operation.
The police also warned Nigerians to be cautious when purchasing herbal products, especially through social media platforms, and advised members of the public to verify the authenticity of products, vendors, and payment channels before making any transactions.
Authorities reiterated that anyone found engaging in similar fraudulent activities would face the full weight of the law.
