Tension reportedly erupted in Mpape, a community in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, after police officers and youths clashed over trucks attempting to pass through the area.
The incident, which occurred on September 24, 2026, involved youths who had reportedly blocked the road to prevent several heavy-duty trucks from moving through the community.
The trucks were said by some residents to be transporting lithium and other natural resources, although the exact materials they were carrying had not been independently confirmed.
During the confrontation, police officers attached to the Katampe Division were seen in a video with firearms drawn as they faced the residents.
Eyewitnesses said the youths had confronted the trucks and blocked their movement, leading to the intervention of the police.
One eyewitness acknowledged that residents should not position themselves directly in front of moving heavy-duty vehicles but questioned the manner in which the police responded to the situation.

The eyewitness said bringing armed officers with rifles into an already tense and crowded environment could further escalate the confrontation rather than calm it.
The video circulating online did not independently establish whether the officers fired live ammunition or where any reported shots were directed.
There was also no independent confirmation of what the trucks were transporting at the time of the incident.
The development has raised concerns about the movement of heavy-duty trucks carrying natural resources and other materials through densely populated communities in the FCT, where narrow roads are often shared by residents and commercial operators.
The FCT Police Command was contacted for clarification on the incident, including whether shots were fired and the identities of the officers involved, but no response had been received at the time of filing the report.
