Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Olisa Oyelu, popularly known as “Obele,” after five years in hiding.
Oyelu, 25, was reportedly arrested on September 23, 2026, by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect had been on the run since 2021 after members of his alleged gang were arrested following a kidnapping operation in which the victim reportedly died.

Police said Oyelu was the last identified member of an armed robbery and kidnapping gang allegedly led by a suspect known as “Pincode.” The gang is also linked to a 2023 kidnapping incident that resulted in the death of a victim.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the arrest followed sustained intelligence gathering and investigation.
The command stated that Oyelu would be handed over to the Correctional Centre after the conclusion of investigations, where other suspects are already being remanded pending court judgment
