The Niger State Police Command has arrested two teenagers for allegedly masterminding a fake abduction in a bid to extort ₦200,000 from the father of one of them.
The suspects, identified as 15-year-old Kelvin Faga and his 17-year-old accomplice, Mayowa Ojewuyi, popularly known as “Mayor,” were apprehended after police investigations revealed that the reported kidnapping had been staged.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, Kelvin left his home for church on July 20, 2026, but failed to return, prompting his family to report him missing at the ‘B’ Division Police Station in Suleja.
Abiodun disclosed that the following day, the family received a telephone call demanding ₦200,000 as ransom, with the caller claiming the teenager had been kidnapped.

Police operatives immediately launched an investigation and, acting on credible intelligence, tracked Kelvin to a hotel in Suleja on July 25, where he was found with Mayowa.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted that they had fabricated the kidnapping to obtain ₦200,000 from Kelvin’s father, intending to share the money between themselves.
The police said both teenagers are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) while investigations continue. They are expected to be charged in court after the investigation is concluded.
