An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Bala Wakili, has been killed following a deadly confrontation between security operatives and suspected bandits in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident occurred on Monday after armed bandits reportedly invaded Girkau and Zugu villages, making away with an unspecified number of livestock during the attack.
Security personnel, including officers from the Kebbe Police Division, responded swiftly and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle in an attempt to stop their escape.
However, the bandits, who were said to be heavily armed and in large numbers, overpowered the security team. ASP Wakili lost his life during the exchange of gunfire.

The attackers also set ablaze two patrol vehicles belonging to the Nigeria Police Force and the Sokoto Community Guard Corps before fleeing the scene.
Residents described the incident as one of the latest violent attacks to hit the area, raising fresh concerns over the persistent threat posed by armed criminal groups in parts of Sokoto State.
Security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and strengthen patrols across vulnerable communities to prevent further attacks.
