Troops of Sector 6 under Operation Enduring Peace have arrested 19 suspects during a security operation in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State following a deadly ambush that claimed the lives of two security operatives.
The arrests were made during a raid on Tongoron Community as security forces intensified efforts to identify those responsible for the attack and recover service rifles stolen from the slain personnel.
According to security sources, the suspects include 14 indigenes of the community and five Fulani residents. They are currently undergoing profiling and further investigation to determine whether they have any links to the ambush or other criminal activities in the area.
The operation forms part of ongoing clearance and cordon-and-search missions launched by Operation Enduring Peace to track down those behind the attack, recover the missing weapons, and strengthen security across Riyom Local Government Area.
Inside Plateau State:
The ambush reportedly occurred along the Ganawuri–Sabon Gida Road, where four security operatives had mounted a temporary roadblock as part of routine patrol operations. After completing the exercise, the officers began returning to their respective duty posts, but two of them failed to return.
A subsequent search confirmed that the two operatives had been attacked and killed by gunmen, who also fled with their service rifles.
Following the incident, security forces launched intensified operations across surrounding communities to apprehend those responsible, recover the stolen firearms, and prevent further attacks.
Military authorities said investigations are ongoing, adding that additional operations would continue until all those linked to the attack are identified and brought to justice.
