
A 14-year-old herder, identified as Aliyu Ismail, has reportedly been killed in a fresh attack around Wereng community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, while the teenager was reportedly tending cattle.
The Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the incident and described it as an unprovoked attack.
He called on security agencies to investigate the killing, arrest those responsible and ensure justice is served.

The latest incident comes amid renewed tension in parts of Plateau State, where separate attacks in areas including Mangu, Barkin Ladi and Bokkos have reportedly resulted in the deaths of farmers and herders.
MACBAN also urged residents to avoid reprisals and called on authorities to strengthen the protection of communities across the state.
Security authorities had not publicly responded to the latest incident as of the time of the report.
