
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, identified as Adegbenro Adeola, following a dramatic chase that led to the rescue of an abducted man in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
According to the police, the suspect is believed to be part of a gang accused of terrorising residents in parts of the city.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed in a statement that the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, during a routine patrol along the Oba-Ile area of Akure.
Police operatives reportedly received intelligence about a distress situation involving a man inside a moving vehicle and quickly swung into action after spotting a red Toyota Camry from which cries for help were heard.
The officers immediately pursued the vehicle, forcing the suspects into a desperate escape attempt.
During the chase, the abductors allegedly pushed the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving vehicle in an effort to evade arrest.

Despite the attempt, the police continued the operation and successfully arrested Adeola, while other members of the gang managed to flee the scene.
The vehicle allegedly used for the operation was also recovered by the police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road in Akure before police intervention led to his rescue.
Jimoh stated that the rescued victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the arrested suspect has provided useful information to investigators working to track down other fleeing gang members.
The case has since been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit in Akure for further investigation.
The police also urged residents of the state to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that could assist ongoing security operations.
