
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued a victim following a high-speed chase in Akure on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, operatives acted on credible intelligence after receiving a distress report about a man shouting for help from inside a moving red Toyota Camry along the Oba-Ile axis. The police team immediately mobilized and pursued the vehicle.
During the chase, the suspects forcefully pushed the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving car in an attempt to escape arrest. Despite this, the officers continued the pursuit and successfully arrested one suspect, Adegbenro Adeola, while other members of the gang fled the scene. The vehicle used in the operation was also recovered.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road in Akure before the police intervention. Kayode has since been rescued and is currently receiving medical attention. The arrested suspect has reportedly provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit in Akure for further investigation and to track down the remaining fleeing members of the syndicate.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to assist in the fight against violent crime in the state.
