
A young boy was reportedly struck by a stray bullet after a raid by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency turned chaotic in Ikang, Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The incident occurred during an operation that led to the arrest of two suspected drug dealers and the recovery of illicit substances from the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, tension escalated when some residents allegedly confronted the NDLEA operatives during the exercise, leading to panic and confusion within the community.

A resident, who spoke anonymously, said gunshots were heard as people fled for safety during the confrontation.
The source explained that after calm was restored, the injured boy was discovered on the ground and immediately rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the NDLEA in Cross River State, Sebastian Lebo, said the agency’s officers came under attack while carrying out the operation but successfully arrested the suspects and recovered exhibits linked to them.
He added that the injured boy is currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and is responding positively to medical care.
Lebo maintained that despite the unrest, the operatives completed the mission and secured the suspected drug dealers alongside the recovered substances.
