Activities at the Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos, Plateau State, were temporarily disrupted on Tuesday after security operatives reportedly arrested a member of staff following a disagreement involving a patient and the enforcement of visiting hours.
The incident occurred at about 11am and reportedly created tension within the hospital, with some workers said to have temporarily withdrawn from their duty posts.
Sources within the facility said normal activities resumed after more than two hours, although the circumstances surrounding the arrest continued to generate concerns among workers and patients.
According to a source, the affected staff member was on duty when security operatives allegedly took him away following a complaint made by a patient.
The disagreement reportedly started when the worker attempted to enforce the hospital management’s directive on approved visiting hours.
The staff member was said to have stopped a visitor from seeing a patient because the visit was outside the designated period.
The action reportedly angered the patient, who allegedly contacted security personnel, leading to the worker’s arrest.
Following the development, tension reportedly spread across parts of the hospital, while some employees temporarily left their duty stations.
The disruption affected hospital operations for over two hours before services gradually returned to normal.
Visiting-hour restrictions are commonly enforced by hospitals to maintain order, limit unnecessary movement within wards and ensure that healthcare workers can attend to patients without avoidable interruptions.
However, disagreements over such rules can sometimes create tension between medical personnel, patients and visitors.
A source said the hospital management had begun efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and resolve the matter.

As of the time of filing this report, the hospital management had not issued an official statement on the incident.
Attempts to obtain comments from the hospital authorities and relevant security agencies were unsuccessful.
