Security forces, supported by hunters and community security groups, have reportedly killed 18 bandits during an intelligence-led operation in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Monday, September 21, at Gidan Iyado, Kakumi Ward, after security personnel received intelligence that the bandits were planning a mass abduction for ransom.
According to Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mua’zu, the combined team ambushed the suspected bandits and engaged them in a gun battle, resulting in the deaths of 18 members of the group.
The commissioner identified the alleged leader of the group as Alhaji Musa Duki, a former school headmaster who reportedly operates from Mununu Forest in Faskari Local Government Area.

Security personnel recovered one G3 rifle, two AK-47 rifles, 14 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three motorcycles, two cows and 94 sheep from the scene.
Mua’zu said no security operative was killed during the operation, adding that a covert operation was ongoing to locate Duki and dismantle his network.
He commended the hunters, Community Watch Corps and local vigilance groups for supporting conventional security agencies and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security authorities.
