A photograph of a primary school pupil who was reportedly swept away by floodwaters in Awka, Anambra State, has emerged as the search for the missing child continues.
The pupil, identified as Success Ezenwafor, was reportedly travelling in a shuttle bus with other schoolchildren when the incident occurred on Tuesday morning along the Awka–Nibo–Nise–Enugwu-Ukwu Ring Road.
Dr Uche Nworah, a former Special Adviser on General Duties to the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Prof. Charles Anosike, shared the child’s photograph on Facebook while appealing for help in locating him.
Nworah said Success’ parents were appealing to members of the public to provide any information that could assist in finding their child.
According to him, the pupil was reportedly swept away by floodwaters while travelling in the shuttle bus with other children.
The development came after the Anambra State Police Command announced that its Safe School Operatives, working with community members, had rescued nine people following a flood incident along the Nibo–Isiagu Road in Awka.
The police said those rescued comprised seven schoolchildren and two adults who were taken to safety, while one child remained unaccounted for.

The command said search and rescue operations had been activated in collaboration with community members and other relevant stakeholders to locate the missing child.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Oji Ama, directed that the search operation should continue and be expanded until the missing person was found.
Residents, particularly those living or operating around the affected route, were urged to provide any information that could help the authorities locate the child.
Parents, guardians, school authorities and motorists were also advised to exercise extreme caution around flooded roads, bridges and waterways during periods of heavy rainfall.
As of Tuesday evening, there was no confirmed information on whether Success had been located.
