A building previously sealed by the Abuja Department of Development Control has collapsed on Abidjan Street, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, prompting emergency agencies to launch search and rescue operations.
The incident occurred on Monday evening, with the FCT Police Command receiving a distress call at about 7:45 p.m.
Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said a response team was immediately deployed to the scene and joined by personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service, Security Service Department and the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
According to the police, preliminary investigations established that the building had earlier been marked and sealed by the Department of Development Control.

As of the time of the police statement, no casualty had been confirmed. However, rescue teams continued searching the rubble to determine whether anyone was trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
The police said investigations were also ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse and determine its possible cause.
Authorities urged residents to remain calm and avoid the affected area to allow emergency responders to carry out rescue operations without obstruction.
Members of the public were also advised to promptly report emergencies or suspicious activities through the appropriate emergency channels.
