The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has transferred arrested drug suspects and recovered illicit drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against drug-related crimes.
The handover was carried out by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Sanusi, to the NDLEA FCT Strategic Command.
The FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the statement, the police commissioner said the command recognised the importance of collaboration with relevant security and law enforcement agencies, particularly the NDLEA, which has the statutory responsibility for investigating and prosecuting drug-related offences.

Sanusi noted that although the police have the authority to investigate and prosecute drug offences, working closely with the NDLEA would help strengthen the collective response to drug-related crimes and other criminal activities across the FCT.
Receiving the suspects and recovered substances on behalf of the NDLEA, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, ACN Samuel Orji, commended the FCT Police Command for promoting inter-agency cooperation.
Orji assured that the suspects would be subjected to proper investigation and prosecuted in accordance with the law where necessary.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with other security agencies and stakeholders to improve security across the nation’s capital.
The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the appropriate emergency channels.
