The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man accused of impersonating a DSS operative and allegedly using a tactical uniform and fake firearm to intimidate and extort motorists in Abuja.
The suspect, identified as Moferewa Maiye, from Agbajojun Village in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, was arrested late Wednesday around NITEL Junction along Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II.
According to a security source, the arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that Maiye had allegedly been posing as a DSS personnel while using a DSS tactical uniform and a fake pistol to intimidate commuters and motorists and collect money from them.
The suspect was reportedly trailed to his hideout before DSS operatives apprehended him. A tactical uniform and fake firearm were allegedly recovered from his possession.

During interrogation, Maiye reportedly claimed that his late brother, identified as Monday Maiye, was a DSS personnel and that the uniform and other items found in his possession belonged to him.
The DSS is currently investigating how the suspect obtained the Service’s uniform and other items bearing its identity. Investigators are also working to determine whether he had previously carried out similar acts of impersonation and extortion.
Maiye remains in DSS custody as investigations continue.
The arrest, according to the source, forms part of efforts by security authorities to prevent individuals from exploiting the identity of security agencies to intimidate members of the public and commit criminal acts.
