The 41-year-old captain opened the scoring within the first five minutes, silencing critics who questioned his form after Portugal’s 0-0 draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo in their opening match.

Ronaldo came into the game without a goal in his last four matches for Portugal and had gone 10 straight games without scoring at major tournaments. His previous goal at a major tournament was in Portugal’s opener at Qatar 2022.
The record-breaking strike adds another milestone to the Portugal captain’s career as he leads his side’s campaign at the 2026 World Cup.
