A pregnant woman, identified as Sandra, has accused Nigerian soldiers of killing her husband, Fwansgshak, a community youth leader in Plateau State, and later portraying him as a bandit.
Fwansgshak was reportedly killed on Sunday, August 9, 2026, less than eight months after he married Sandra. The couple were also expecting their first child.
According to accounts from Sandra, church members and community residents, Fwansgshak was actively involved in local security efforts. He reportedly coordinated a volunteer security team of about 10 young men who helped protect residents from armed attacks.
The community said trouble began after gunshots were heard in the area. Fwansgshak and other volunteers reportedly moved towards the direction of the gunfire after allegedly failing to receive a response from soldiers stationed nearby.
Community members claimed the volunteers confronted the attackers and pushed them towards the forest before soldiers later arrived.
They alleged that the soldiers subsequently opened fire on the civilian volunteers, killing Fwansgshak.
His body was reportedly taken away and later found at a nearby hospital, while photographs of him allegedly circulated online with claims that he was a bandit who had exchanged fire with soldiers.

Sandra and members of the community have strongly rejected the allegation, insisting that her husband was a youth leader and local security volunteer, not an armed criminal.
Speaking after a church service, Sandra said she had barely spent eight months with her husband before he was killed.
She also spoke about the child she is carrying, saying she believes the unborn child will grow up to fulfil his father’s legacy.
The allegations have sparked anger among residents and church members, who are demanding answers over the circumstances surrounding Fwansgshak’s death and how he came to be portrayed as a bandit.
The incident has also raised concerns about the conduct of security personnel and the risks faced by civilian volunteers assisting communities affected by armed attacks.
As of the time of reporting, the allegations made by the family and community members had not been independently established, while questions remain over the circumstances of the August 9 incident.
