The Bauchi State Police Command has announced restrictions on vehicular movement and commercial activities in two constituencies ahead of the bye-elections scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The restriction will apply to Disina State Constituency in Shira Local Government Area and Sakwa State Constituency in Zaki Local Government Area, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct the elections.
According to the police, the restrictions will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day. However, essential-duty personnel, INEC officials, accredited election observers and emergency responders will be exempted.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered the deployment of security personnel and operational assets to the affected constituencies to maintain peace and ensure a smooth electoral process.
The command also directed that security aides attached to VIPs, political office holders and public officials must not accompany their principals to polling units or collation centres. The use of sirens and covered number plates has equally been prohibited during the election period.

Police said state-owned security outfits, vigilante groups, private security guards and other quasi-security agencies would not be allowed to participate in election security operations. Only legally recognised security agencies operating under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) will provide security coverage.
The command warned residents and political actors against vote-buying, vote-selling, hate speech, fake news, thuggery, cyberbullying and other activities capable of disrupting the elections.
It further warned that anyone found with dangerous weapons or other incriminating items at polling units would be arrested and prosecuted.
The police assured residents of the two constituencies that adequate measures had been put in place to protect lives and property while ensuring a peaceful and professional electoral process.
