Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a couple over the alleged brutal abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Awada, Obosi, located in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Chisom Chukwukere, 30, and her husband, Chukwudi, were taken into custody following the circulation of a disturbing video showing the young victim with severe injuries across his body.
The footage, which has since gone viral on social media, sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from the public.
According to reports, the couple allegedly used burning plastic to inflict serious harm on the child, raising concerns about child safety and domestic abuse within the community.
In a related development, the couple’s infant child has been taken into protective custody by the Anambra State Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare. Authorities confirmed that the baby has been placed in the care of a family member to ensure proper welfare and safety.

During interrogation, the female suspect reportedly appealed to authorities to release her infant, claiming the child was unwell and required her attention. A video circulating online shows her making emotional pleas for the return of the baby.
The incident has triggered intense public reaction, with many questioning the contradiction between the suspect’s concern for her own child and the alleged abuse inflicted on another.
Confirming the arrests, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state stated that investigations are ongoing and assured that all individuals found culpable would be brought to justice.
