Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have successfully rescued a couple who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Tiro Village, located in the Irawo axis of Oke-Ogun, Oyo State.
The victims, identified as Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were reportedly kidnapped on Saturday, July 5, 2026, when armed men stormed their community, fired gunshots into the air, and forcefully took them to an unknown location.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, immediately ordered a coordinated rescue operation.
The mission involved police officers, the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local vigilantes, and hunters.
According to the statement, a breakthrough came when security operatives recovered a Bajaj motorcycle earlier reported stolen and abandoned in a nearby bush.

This discovery, combined with the use of technological intelligence, helped the team trace the kidnappers’ hideout.
Upon arrival, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the advancing operatives, leading to a gun battle.
However, due to the dense forest terrain, the kidnappers fled with suspected gunshot wounds, abandoning the victims behind.
“The victims were rescued unhurt, taken for medical evaluation, and later discharged after being confirmed stable. They have since been reunited with their family,” the statement added.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot injuries or displaying suspicious behavior, noting that such information could aid in apprehending the fleeing suspects.
The Command also commended the support of local security groups and community members, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
