
Tension has reportedly gripped parts of Niger State following the killing of the elder brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, by suspected bandits.
The victim, who was the Village Head of Galla in the Borgu Emirate, was reportedly attacked at his palace on Monday, August 24, 2026.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the suspected bandits stormed the monarch’s palace after he had allegedly warned them to stay away from the community.
The warning was reportedly perceived as a challenge by the criminals, who later returned to the community and attacked the traditional ruler.
The reported killing has heightened concerns over the security situation in the Borgu Emirate, where residents have expressed worry over alleged rising cases of banditry and other criminal activities
The Niger State Police Command has yet to officially confirm the killing.
Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, reportedly acknowledged receiving inquiries about the incident but said he would provide further details after obtaining the necessary information.
As of the time of filing the report, the police had not released an official statement confirming the circumstances surrounding the reported attack.
