Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rejected a ₦100 million bribe and successfully dismantled a large railway vandalism syndicate in a coordinated intelligence-led operation that led to the recovery of stolen infrastructure worth over ₦400 million.
The operation was carried out by the Force Intelligence Department’s Special Tactical Squad, which intercepted a trailer truck loaded with vandalised railway tracks and sleepers in Akwanga.
Two suspects 32-year-old Chisom Goodnews and 22-year-old Ahmed Adamu were arrested on April 9, 2026, following credible intelligence that tracked the movement of the stolen materials across state lines.
According to Force spokesperson Anthony Placid, the stolen railway materials were cleverly concealed under sacks of groundnut shells in an attempt to avoid detection during transportation from Bauchi State to Ilorin.

Investigations revealed that the driver of the truck was contracted for ₦2.5 million to move the vandalised materials, indicating the existence of a coordinated criminal supply chain involving receivers and transporters of stolen public infrastructure.
In a further development, the police disclosed that operatives involved in the operation rejected a ₦100 million bribe allegedly offered to compromise the investigation and secure the release of the suspects and seized exhibits.
The intercepted truck and recovered railway materials have since been secured as investigations continue to uncover other members of the syndicate believed to be operating across multiple states.
Commending the operatives, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, praised their conduct, describing the operation as a reflection of professionalism, discipline, and integrity within the force.
