The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a widely circulated viral video claiming to show bandits operating in a forest within the state, describing the footage as false, misleading, and deliberately recycled to incite panic.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, clarified that the video did not originate from Ogun State or anywhere in Nigeria.
According to the command, preliminary investigations revealed that the footage was actually recorded in Kenya during an operation targeting cattle rustlers.
The video was reportedly captured using a drone operated by the General Service Unit.

Further findings showed that the clip first surfaced online in 2022 and has since been recirculated with a fabricated narrative aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary fear.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the spread of unverified content, warning that such actions could erode public trust in security agencies and destabilize public peace.
He also dismissed claims of bandit activity in Ogun forests, stating that there is no intelligence or operational report indicating the presence of such criminal elements in any part of the state.
Ojajuni reassured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining security through intelligence-driven policing, strategic deployments, and continuous surveillance operations.
The police urged the public to disregard the viral video and avoid sharing unverified information, emphasizing that the spread of false or inciting content will not be tolerated.
