The Benue State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of supplying ammunition to bandits during a security operation in Guma Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Joro Jarkata from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, was apprehended by operatives of the Guma Police Division during a stop-and-search operation conducted on July 28.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Peter Aondona, officers intercepted two men riding on a motorcycle. One of the occupants reportedly fled into a nearby bush after spotting the police, while Jarkata was arrested at the scene.
A search of the suspect led to the recovery of 115 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition allegedly concealed in his possession.
The police said the suspect is currently in custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Makurdi for further investigation.

Authorities added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and determine the source of the ammunition, its intended destination, and any other individuals connected to the alleged supply network.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the officers for their vigilance and swift response, noting that the operation prevented the ammunition from reaching criminal elements.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal firearms and ammunition, while urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
