
The Oyo State Police Command has successfully recovered a hijacked DAF tanker truck abandoned in the Ile-Igbon area, following a strategic intelligence-led operation targeting cross-border vehicle hijacking syndicates.
In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the recovery as a significant breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and enhance public safety across the state.
According to the police, operatives acted on credible intelligence which led to the discovery of the tanker, reportedly left unattended for several days.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects abandoned the vehicle after realizing they were being closely tracked by security agencies.
“The criminal elements fled the scene upon sensing intensified surveillance and operational pressure from our officers,” the statement noted.
Further findings confirmed that the tanker was initially hijacked along the Ijebu-Ode axis of Ogun State by armed individuals.
The driver later identified the recovered vehicle, while the owner corroborated that the incident had already been reported to authorities in Ogun.

The tanker has since been secured and moved into police custody pending the completion of necessary investigative procedures.
The Oyo State Police Command is currently collaborating with its Ogun State counterpart to facilitate the proper handover of the vehicle to its rightful owner.
Meanwhile, efforts have been intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in the crime.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, emphasized the importance of intelligence-driven operations, strategic deployment of resources, and inter-agency collaboration in tackling crime.
Residents have also been urged to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that can aid crime prevention and detection.
The Command reiterated its dedication to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.
