The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into a serving Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and a civilian following allegations that they sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of the state.
The case was reported to the police by the victim’s father, Mohammed Saleh, who alleged that his daughter was assaulted in two separate incidents earlier this month.
According to the complaint, the police officer, who is attached to the Itas Divisional Headquarters, allegedly lured the girl with ₦1,000 while she was returning home from school before taking her to a secluded location, where she was allegedly assaulted.
The father also accused a 50-year-old businessman identified as Babangida Mai Shayi of luring the same girl with ₦200 days later before allegedly assaulting her at his business premises.
Following the report, detectives visited the locations linked to the incidents and commenced investigations. The victim was also taken to the General Hospital in Itas for medical examination.

Police authorities confirmed that the civilian suspect has been arrested, while the serving police officer has been issued a formal query as part of an ongoing disciplinary process alongside the criminal investigation.
The command stated that investigations are continuing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the allegations and assured that anyone found culpable would face appropriate legal action in accordance with the law.
The police urged members of the public to continue reporting cases of abuse and pledged to ensure justice is served through a thorough and impartial investigation.
