
A tragic road accident on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge has claimed the life of a police officer, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The incident occurred around the Adekunle axis inward Iyana Oworo, involving a Lexus Jeep and a Bajaj motorcycle ridden by the officer.
LASTMA confirmed in an official statement that the Lexus vehicle, bearing registration number EPE 765 JN, rammed into the police officer while he was on duty along the busy bridge corridor.
The impact of the collision proved fatal, as the officer reportedly died instantly from the injuries sustained.
Following the accident, the driver of the Lexus Jeep turned himself in at the Adekunle Police Division.
Reacting to the development, LASTMA described the incident as unfortunate and expressed deep sadness over the loss.
The agency noted that its officials, alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, responded swiftly after receiving distress calls.

Emergency safety measures were immediately implemented at the scene to prevent further accidents. Traffic cones and cautionary devices were strategically placed, while officers commenced documentation and investigations into the crash.
The agency also carried out coordinated evacuation and recovery operations to remove the affected vehicles and restore normal traffic flow on the bridge.
Despite the severity of the incident, traffic was effectively managed due to the prompt intervention of LASTMA officials.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and maintain speed limits.
He emphasized the importance of responsible driving, noting that reckless behavior on the road continues to endanger lives.
He further called on road users to remain conscious of the value of human life and cooperate with traffic laws to curb the rising rate of road fatalities across Lagos State.
