Chelsea legend John Terry has identified what he believes is England’s biggest challenge ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final against Norway, pointing to the influential partnership of Martin Ødegaard and Erling Haaland.
England and Norway will battle for a place in the semi-finals after both sides impressed in the Round of 16. England secured their quarter-final spot with a victory over Mexico, while Norway stunned five-time champions Brazil to keep their World Cup dream alive.

Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Terry praised Norway as a disciplined and well-organised team capable of causing problems for any opponent.
The former England captain said much of Norway’s attacking play is built around captain Martin Ødegaard, whose creativity and vision make him the team’s driving force. He also highlighted Haaland’s goalscoring ability, describing the Manchester City striker as a constant danger in front of goal.
According to Terry, England’s chances of reaching the semi-finals will largely depend on their ability to keep both players quiet throughout the match.
He expressed confidence that if the Three Lions can limit Ødegaard’s influence in midfield and prevent Haaland from getting clear scoring opportunities, they will stand a strong chance of progressing to the last four of the tournament.
The quarter-final clash is expected to be one of the standout matches of the World Cup, with a place in the semi-finals at stake for both nations.
