
A police officer deployed to a private engineering company in Durumi, Abuja, has died from a gunshot wound while on duty.
The officer, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Norbert Odale, with AP/No. 203734, was reportedly found lifeless inside a security room at the approved guard post of Eunell Engineering Company.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Odale’s colleague, Police Constable Shuaibu Danjuma, who was also assigned to the location, reportedly raised the alarm after the deceased failed to respond to knocks on the security room door.
According to a police incident report, officers who arrived at the scene found Odale with a gunshot injury to his chest.
His service rifle, bearing breach number 07006497, was recovered at the scene alongside 29 rounds of ammunition and one spent cartridge. The weapon was reportedly found cocked, with its chamber open.

Police personnel documented the scene with photographs before the officer’s remains were taken to Wuse General Hospital for certification and preservation.
Preliminary findings reportedly raised suspicion that Odale may have died by suicide while on duty. However, the circumstances surrounding his death have not been conclusively established, as investigations are still ongoing.
The police said efforts were being made to contact the deceased officer’s family and determine the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
Authorities are expected to provide further information as the investigation progresses.
