Two firefighters have been hospitalised after collapsing while battling a fire outbreak that engulfed a three-storey residential building in the Ketu-Ikosi area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, reportedly started at about 6:31 a.m., affecting the top floor of one of two twin buildings located on Ademola Taiwo Street.
According to emergency officials, the fire was triggered by an electrical surge from a prepaid meter installed at the front section of the building. The flames quickly spread to the uppermost floor, prompting an immediate response from emergency teams.
Firefighters, in collaboration with other responders, were able to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to the adjoining building and nearby properties.
However, during the intense firefighting operation, two personnel collapsed at the scene. They were swiftly evacuated to a trauma centre, where they are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Fortunately, no civilian casualties or injuries were recorded in the incident.
Authorities confirmed that dampening-down operations are ongoing to eliminate any residual heat and prevent a possible re-ignition, while recovery efforts continue to assess the level of damage.
Residents have been advised to regularly inspect and maintain electrical installations, particularly prepaid meters and wiring systems, to prevent similar incidents.
They were also urged to remain calm and promptly contact emergency services through designated toll-free lines in case of emergencies.
Emergency responders were commended for their swift and coordinated efforts, which helped avert what could have escalated into a more devastating disaster.
