The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of criminal syndicates linked to housebreaking, theft, and the sale of stolen property during coordinated intelligence-led operations across the state.
The operations, executed by the command’s Strike Force, also resulted in the recovery of stolen motorcycles, a sewing machine, and several mobile phones.
Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects still at large.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the first breakthrough followed a complaint from a resident of Rumbukawa, Mahadi Abubakar, whose home was burgled on July 24.
The suspects reportedly made away with a sewing machine, power bank, 13 mobile phones, and ₦50,750 in cash.
Acting on intelligence, detectives tracked and arrested one Anas Bello while attempting to sell the stolen sewing machine at Sokoto Central Market.
His arrest led to the capture of Bello Sambo, who was allegedly found with three stolen phones, and later, Murtala Sambo, from whom a Realme phone was recovered.

However, two suspects identified as Kabiru, also known as Alhaji, and Muji are still on the run.
In a separate operation, the police arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of motorcycles in the Alkammawa area on August 2.
The suspects—Mubarak Nasiru (alias Dan Bahago), Muh’d Bello (alias Malaga), and Ismail Aminu (alias Anda)—allegedly confessed to the crime, admitting involvement with other accomplices.
Police investigations revealed that members of the syndicate played roles in disposing of the stolen motorcycles, including acting as buyers. Two of the stolen motorcycles have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to locate the third.
The Commissioner of Police, Hassan Shaffa, commended the Strike Force for the successful operations, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling crime across the state.
He warned criminals to desist from illegal activities, stressing that the police would continue to pursue all fleeing suspects and ensure that stolen property is recovered and offenders brought to justice.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, with assurances that all information would be treated confidentially.
