The Osun State Police Command has warned against the spread of false reports claiming bandits’ invasion in parts of the state, describing them as unfounded and misleading.
In a statement issued Tuesday in Osogbo, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi said the Command observed with concern the circulation of the claims on social media and other platforms.
He said available intelligence and security assessments do not support the allegations of banditry attacks in any community.
“The reports are unfounded, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic, fear, and tension among law-abiding residents,” the statement said.

Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Gotan cautioned individuals and groups involved in creating and sharing false security information to stop immediately. He noted that unverified reports undermine public confidence and threaten peace and security across the state.
Gotan urged residents to verify security-related information through official channels before sharing it. He warned that anyone found spreading false information that could cause public disorder would be investigated and prosecuted.
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property. It said covert operatives and Violent Crime Response personnel have been deployed across the state, and urged the public to report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
