The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the gunmen who allegedly killed popular comedian and master of ceremonies, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as “Azia Nwosu,” alongside another unidentified man in Awka, the state capital.
The two men were reportedly shot dead at separate locations in Awka on Sunday night, August 30, 2026, throwing residents in the affected areas into panic.
According to the police, Nwosu was attacked along S.M. Okeke Street in the Amaikwo area of Awka, while the second victim was shot along Capital City Road, Amaenyi.
An eyewitness reportedly said about three gunmen in a tinted vehicle followed Nwosu from his residence before overtaking his vehicle and opening fire.
The assailants allegedly fled after the attack but reportedly shot another man along the road, taking some of his belongings before leaving the area.
The police said security operatives responded to distress calls and mobilised to the locations, where the bodies of the two victims were recovered and taken to a hospital. Medical personnel subsequently confirmed them dead.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary information indicated that three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla were responsible for the attacks.

He disclosed that one of the victims remained unidentified, while the other was identified as Isaac Nwosu, also known as “Azia.”
Items recovered from the scene included ₦7,550 in cash, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, condemned the killings and ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka to take over the case for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The commissioner also held a closed-door meeting with the command’s strategic and operational officers to review intelligence gathered from the public and strengthen security operations in Awka and neighbouring communities.
Police authorities have intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across the city as efforts continue to identify and arrest those behind the killings.
While some residents have suggested a possible cult-related motive, the police have not officially established the reason for the attacks.
The command has appealed to members of the public with useful information about the suspects or their vehicle to assist security agencies in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
