The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged self-kidnapping of Shakirulahi Babatunde, a media aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke, amid claims that the incident was intended to extort money from the state government.
The development followed a message reportedly sent by Babatunde alleging that he had been kidnapped. The matter was subsequently reported to the police on the instruction of the governor’s Chief of Staff, Kazeem Akinleye, before being transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for investigation.
Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the investigation was being conducted without interference from the state government.

Rasheed also dismissed reports alleging that senior government officials attempted to influence the investigation or bribe police officers to suppress the matter.
He said the state government would await the outcome of the police investigation before taking further action.
As of the time of the report, the Osun State Police Command had not publicly commented on the alleged self-kidnapping.
