
The Osun State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping operation, rescued an abducted herder unharmed, recovered over ₦2.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds, and arrested a suspected kidnapper during a tactical operation in the state.
The victim, identified as 50-year-old Haruna Yusuf, was reportedly abducted by four armed men near Wasinmi Village along the Gbongan-Ibadan Road. Following the incident, police operatives launched an intelligence-led investigation in collaboration with local vigilantes to track the kidnappers.
Security operatives closely monitored the ransom payment process before carrying out a coordinated operation at a designated drop-off point along the Ibadan-Ife Expressway. The victim was successfully rescued without injuries.

During the operation, the suspected kidnappers opened fire on the advancing officers, leading to a gun battle. One of the suspects was arrested after sustaining gunshot wounds, while others fled into nearby bushes. The injured suspect was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Police also recovered ₦2,217,800 at the scene, which investigators believe was part of the ransom paid by the victim’s relatives. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal gang.
In a separate operation, the command arrested three suspected cultists in Iree following intelligence reports linking them to criminal activities. Officers recovered a small coffin and charms during the raid, while investigations are underway to determine their involvement in alleged ritual-related crimes.
The police also confirmed the arrest of another suspected kidnapper connected to an attempted abduction in Ijebu-Jesa, as well as eight additional suspects for offences including stealing, unlawful possession of suspected Indian hemp, and hooliganism.
The Osun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes, urging residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to improve public safety.
