The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has foiled an alleged kidnapping operation along the waterways in Oron Local Government Area of the state.
The command said the operation was carried out by personnel of the Marine Police, Oron, in collaboration with Marine Hunters following credible intelligence about a planned criminal operation in the area.
According to the police, the operatives moved to a suspected criminal camp located along the Calabar–Oron Channel as part of efforts to disrupt the activities of a suspected kidnapping syndicate.
During the operation, the security team recovered a Jojeef English pump-action gun, two cartridges and a white rope suspected to have been intended for criminal activities.
The operatives also recovered two speedboats, three 200-horsepower outboard engines and one 15-horsepower outboard engine.
The police said all the recovered items had been secured for proper documentation and further investigation.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Uyo on Tuesday.

She said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by the command to prevent criminal activities and strengthen security around the state’s waterways.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed, commended the Marine Police personnel and Marine Hunters for their professionalism and proactive response.
He assured residents of riverine communities, boat operators, fishermen and other users of the waterways that the command would continue to intensify efforts to protect lives and property across the state.
