The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed reports of security threats targeting examination centres ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), reassuring candidates and parents of adequate safety measures nationwide.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the circulating claims particularly those linked to a North Central state as “unfounded” and lacking any credible basis.
According to the police, while the Force does not act on rumours, it acknowledges public concerns regarding the safety and well-being of candidates and has taken proactive steps to ensure a secure examination environment.
The NPF confirmed the deployment of enhanced security across UTME centres nationwide ahead of the examination scheduled to commence on April 16, 2026.
These measures include a strengthened security presence at centres, routine patrols in surrounding areas, thorough perimeter checks, and the strategic positioning of rapid response teams to promptly address any incidents.
The Force also revealed ongoing collaboration with other security agencies to monitor and neutralise any potential threats during the examination period.
“The Nigeria Police Force is working closely with sister security agencies to ensure that any individual or group attempting to disrupt the examination process is swiftly identified and brought to justice,” the statement noted.

The police further cautioned the public against spreading unverified information, especially on social media, urging reliance on official updates from the NPF and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Reaffirming its commitment, the Force stated that it remains dedicated to maintaining peace, security, and public confidence throughout the UTME exercise.
The 2026 UTME is scheduled to run from April 16 to April 25, 2026, across accredited centres nationwide
