
The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed an attack by armed bandits on communities in Shagari Local Government Area, with a police inspector reportedly killed during the incident.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the attack, saying the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Shagari had briefed the command.
According to reports, the bandits were seen moving through farmlands and communities, particularly around Sanyin Nawal, where residents raised alarms and called for prayers and protection.
The attackers reportedly stopped vehicles and robbed travellers before later opening fire on a passenger vehicle while returning from the area.

A police inspector, identified in reports as Inspector Isah Muhammad Girkau, was reportedly struck by a bullet and died from his injuries.
However, the police command said it was still gathering information and had yet to officially confirm the identity of the deceased officer or provide full details of the casualties.
The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of rural communities and travellers along roads in parts of Sokoto State.
