
The Yobe State Police Command has uncovered an illegal firearms fabrication workshop in Potiskum Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of seven suspected gunmakers.
The operation, which took place on Monday, followed credible intelligence reports about unlawful firearm production in the area.
Acting on the information, operatives from the Potiskum Area Command, alongside officers from the Divisional Police Headquarters, raided a blacksmith workshop located at Tasha Adua along Danchuwa Road.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, described the discovery as a major breakthrough in the command’s ongoing efforts to curb crime and enhance security across the state.
According to the police, several items were recovered from the scene, including two locally fabricated pistols, 24 muzzle pipes, nine gun butts, four unserviceable Dane guns, a filing machine, and a cutlass.

Abdulkarim noted that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
He added that investigations are ongoing to identify other possible collaborators, as well as the intended distribution and use of the illegal weapons.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state has directed an expanded probe to uncover additional illegal firearm production centres and assess the broader security implications of such activities.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and safety in the state.
