The Oyo State Police Command has dismantled a suspected criminal syndicate involved in the diversion of goods in transit, recovering items valued at approximately ₦32 million and arresting two suspects during a targeted operation in Oyo Town.
The suspects, identified as Olawale Kareem (40) and Ogunbiyi Monday (46), were apprehended following an intelligence-led raid carried out by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit at the Oyo Operational Base.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the operation led to the recovery of an IVECO truck with registration number MUS 809 XY (Lagos), loaded with 570 bags of guinea corn. The consignment was reportedly diverted while en route from Kaduna State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a syndicate allegedly specializing in the unlawful diversion and conversion of goods for financial gain. The police confirmed that both individuals have confessed to their involvement in the crime.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Abimbola, commended the operatives for their swift and professional response, emphasizing the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and the protection of economic activities across the state.
He also issued a stern warning to individuals involved in economic sabotage, urging them to desist or face the full weight of the law.
The police further called on transporters, logistics operators, and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities, assuring that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover additional diverted goods.
