The Rivers State Police Command has rescued a woman who was reportedly kidnapped from in front of her shop and arrested a suspected member of the gang involved in the abduction.
The woman, identified as Loveth, was kidnapped on September 2, 2026, in the Eleme area of the state.
According to the police, the kidnappers fired shots into the air before forcing her into a vehicle and fleeing the area.
Following the incident, operatives of the Eleme Police Division launched an intelligence-led operation to locate the victim and track down her abductors.
The operation eventually resulted in a gun battle between the police and the suspected kidnappers, during which Loveth was rescued.
The police also arrested a 35-year-old suspect identified as Victor Ini, who was alleged to be a member of the kidnapping gang.
Items recovered from the suspect included a silver-coloured mini Keke bus with registration number RBC 992 XE, Abuja, two locally made pistols, one live round of ammunition, a mobile phone and two identity cards.

Police also recovered two black gowns and a vehicle number plate bearing registration number KRK 528 HG. The Command said efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected gang.
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, assured residents that the command would continue to take lawful measures to protect lives and property and bring criminal suspects to justice.
He warned criminals operating in the state that there would be no safe haven for those involved in kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly during the ember months, and provide credible information that could assist security operatives in preventing crimes and apprehending suspects.
