The Taraba State Police Command has announced plans to deploy additional personnel to student hostels and other vulnerable areas in Jalingo following an attack on female students.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when suspected hoodlums reportedly invaded female hostels located outside the main campuses of the College of Nursing Sciences and the state-owned university in Jalingo.
According to the police, the attackers allegedly stole mobile phones, money and other personal belongings from several students. One female student was also reportedly raped during the invasion.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Didango Shehu, confirmed the incident and said investigations had commenced to identify and arrest those responsible.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had directed the immediate deployment of additional patrol teams to the affected community and other areas with a high concentration of students.

The attack triggered tension among students, with hundreds reportedly taking part in a peaceful protest on Monday to demand improved security.
The students said their concerns extend beyond the latest incident, noting that those unable to secure accommodation within the school premises often have to live in isolated private hostels where they feel vulnerable to criminal attacks.
The management of the College of Nursing Sciences also said it was working with security agencies to address the situation and prevent further incidents, while urging students to remain calm as investigations continue.
The police assured residents and students that efforts were ongoing to strengthen security and protect lives and property across the state.
